BORIS JAIRALA June 4th, 2009

FEATURE ARTIST: Boris Jairala

Boris Jairala is the featured artist at L'Art au Refuge on June 4th, 2009.

Boris works in a variety of mediums and his paintings are rendered in oil (high contrast colors, mostly) on canvas or wood panel and are complimented by custom-made frames. These frames become extensions of the painting itself as they are designed and built to compliment the subject and overall feeling expressed by the work. Essentially the painting and frame, integrated together, is the artwork- unseparable, but one.

His most recent "Candle" series focuses on one subject lit by a candle in the darkness. The frames are created from old doors and are stained and burnt. A candle is suspended from the frame in the exact position of the rendered light source maintaining a physical light source complimenting the bright highlights and deep shadows of the painting. Some of the candle scones are mechanical in that they can be raised to maintain the same light source as the candle burns down.

Born in Brooklyn, New York and receiving his Bachelors of Fine Arts from Brooklyn College, Boris is currently working full-time as a freelance artist.

About L'Art au Refuge

L'Art au Refuge is established by Jean-Luc Quevauvilliers, who is providing the opportunity to up and coming artists to showcase their work in a solo exhibition in New York City.

Artists, who know how extremely hard and expensive it is to arrange a gallery or space in New York City to showcase art, will now have the chance to do so, at no cost to them.

Each week a new artist will showcase a collection of their work, ranging from photography, pop-art and graphic design to paintings, scuptures and pottery. Arists will also have the choice to sell their art during the exhibition.

Family and friends, magazine editors, art enthusiasts, company scouts, celebrities and potential clients are lined up to visit this weekly Thursday evening Exhibition, which will be open to the public and free of charge.

The exhibition will take place in an elaborate 2-story townhouse lounge in Midtown East from 7pm until 11pm. Cocktails, Wine and Global Tapas will be available for guests, and weekly guest DJ's will play live.
